- Dear Doll Enthusiasts;
- Recently we observe a rush into the cloth doll making arena, a popularity and craze for cloth dolls like never before. We have to admit that there is a twist from the clay molding popularity and the significant attention now given to the use of cloth in doll making and designs. It is interesting to see the dramatic reverse to the use of cloth, creating a somewhat new taste for the use of the basic needle and thread confinement. The use of cloth has been an ancient practice that accommodated designs of all sorts of elaborate embroidery and fashions, including dolls of the 17th century. Today many people are seeing the cloth doll making as a good retirement hobby, something to occupy time in an enjoyable way, a relaxing activity that is worthwhile doing, and a profitable skill to learn.
- Doll Disputes
- Most of us have turned out fabulous works of art in cloth dolls that had not existed in like fashion before, and without proper protection these works have gotten into the hands of others who have taken a likeness to them and see it fit to capitalize on them without proper permission. While this may be considered sharing ones knowledge which is quite appropriate to do, so as to allow your work to live on it is even more appropriate to preserve the mark of your identity with your creativity that any after use of it, be considered borrowed and accredited to your original effort. The use of any one's original work should be used as providing insight to future creativity of that individual, and not for constant duplication to reflect a copy of, one should seek to find his/her own stimulus to work with. It is therefore necessary that each Doll Artist apply all necessary precautions and record details of their creations in a legal form, and clearly inform users the extent they are allowed the use of your material.
- Fun or Funds
- Who should make and sell your dolls, what are the uses of your patterns when given away or sold. How much can consumers profit off your purchased patterns are they buying for fun or to be able to create and market your dolls, how much does the consumer know about buying your patterns. More fun and less funds is realized among cloth doll makers, some have become so attached to their creations that it makes it difficult to part with, others would like to part with their creations but did not take enough time to create marketabe products, others are finding it difficult to find the outlet for their creations, but all do have one thing in common the fun in making and creating adorable creatures. One good thing is guaranteed with cloth dolls is the safety in toying with them, they are the ideal for young children, a lot of centiments can be woven around them for a considerable amount of years with memories carried over to adulthood.
